If you've got an Apple device—iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch—you REALLY need to install the latest software update RIGHT NOW. Malware has been detected in the wild that can install the NSO Pegasus spyware on your machine without any user interaction: arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/0

If you can't updatte right now, enabling Lockdown Mode (in Settings➛Privacy & Security on iOS) will block the spyware from doing anything, at a cost in device usefulness.

If you are a Chrome user, you've probably been been opted-in to Google's enhanced tracking system without any warning.

Google Chrome newest update pretends to provide users "Enhanced ad privacy", but actually enrolls Chrome users into a new trackings system.

To disable this tracking, go to Settings>Privacy and Security>Ad Privacy and disable all three options there (Ad Topics, Site-suggested Ads, and Ad Measurement).

'To everyone upset that people are cheering for this man's apparently declining remember what Mitch said to Obama when he was trying to explain the immense benefit public healthcare would provide:

Apple's Hypervisor-based virtual machine tech is so good, they could easily put a version of macOS, a la the old Classic environment on Mac OS X, on iPad, with full graphics acceleration, today. If the iPad is never going to bridge that gap itself, maybe this really is the best way to go about it. Sandbox the entirety of macOS into an app so it can never do any damage to the rest of the iPad. It's also a regulatory get-out-of-jail-free card that Apple can hide behind youtube.com/watch?v=lDZOjIGHka

To help preserve software, 4am dives deep, deep into Apple II floppy disks and not only figures out progressively difficult, space-program-like copy protection on the disk, but they also document it to within an inch of its life.

Come read a (40-column) overview of the epic of cracking "Spare Change", a 1983 Apple II arcade/sorting game from Br0derbund.

@rakkhi I was also doing a light outline thing about canaries over the weekend around building simple traps for attackers to walk into similar to the canary tokens but from a more home grown perspective because I too listened to that same episode and was nodding along with @thegrugq so damn hard my neck hurt.

Here is a simple example of setting up a fake /admin endpoint for a web app that would be easily picked up in an automated scan in the first pic that also sets a trap that only a person would ever pick up on by setting an “authz” cookie with the value as “unset” and redirecting them back to the home page.

I then have a second bit of code that specifically looks for that same cookie on future requests and checks if it’s set to anything other than authz as an indication that I am now dealing with a person and not a bot and hooks directly into my cloud providers security alert center dashboards if that ever happens.

A real simple deception that takes no time to set up but probably looks a lot more believable than your standard canary token.

‘If you really can't figure out which political party or which politician to vote for, just ask if they're on the side of libraries.

Are they voting to fund their libraries?
Are they voting to keep them free?

Then vote for those guys.
They're probably the good guys.

And by the same token, the book burners, the book banners, they're probably the bad guys.’
