Hey, if you want to be "verified" on the fediverse as being _actually you_, you don't need some third party to verify you or to check some list.
Got a domain you own, that's obvs you?
Paste `<a rel="me" href="https://your.server/@your_username">Mastodon</a>`into the html on that domain, add that domain to your profile links, bam, verified at least as comprehensively as a lot of folks on birdsite.
If this seems hard, I will help you! You can verify yourself, promise!
(boosts for reach a-ok)
A relevant blog post for this Mastodon platform: 'The "palaeontological folklore" of mastodon hair': an essay about the surprising LACK of fossil evidence for brown, shaggy hair in these elephant-like creatures. It turns out that there's no reason to assume mastodons were mammoth-like in appearance, and the brown, hairy mastodons you see everywhere are a #paleoart super-meme.

I’m looking for a seminar speaker for our experimental (astro-)particle physics group on Nov 18. Since it’s also LGBTQ+STEM Day, I’d be particularly excited to welcome #LGBTQSTEM #BiInSci #TransInSTEM folks! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Seminar is online, so you can join us from anywhere in the world. Early career folks (incl. final year PhD students) welcome! #Astrodon #ParticlePhysics
You know, I am grateful for you. For everyone out there who is curious, compassionate, kind, and fosters laughter, understanding, and connection.
The last few days have showed me that no one place can ever hold the keys to our communities, our passions, our power, and our fire.
No matter what, we've got this.
I've seen some people describe themselves as a "Twitter refugee".
Would it be possible for people to stop using that term please. Refugees flee from persecution, usually also fleeing for their lives. Moving from Twitter to Mastodon is not fleeing from persecution or fleeing for your life.
Using refugee in this context comes across of making light of what it actually means to be a refugee, and can strip away what being a refugee actually in everyday parlance means to if used causally too often.
I remain genuinely and pleasantly shocked that in the course of 10 days or so, we all just went, “no way, eff this, we’re going to @Mastodon”, and now we’re just here and people are so nice and writing alt-text in their images and sharing great stuff and using content warnings and everything. Obviously none of this would have been possible without years of work by #Fediverse / #ActivityHub devs that came before. Even so, this is really something, no? 😃
Y’all @Tinu ‘s in the house! Follow her, I command you. She’s the Empress of Twerk ffs
Whoa, have y'all noticed how weirdly toxic the cross-posted RTs from Twitter are? It's almost like that place just isn't the right shape to fit here. 😮 #TwitterMigration
Im enjoying this app so far. Any suggested #psychology #neuroscience #cognition #openscience #rstats accounts to follow are much appreciated!
By way of #introduction... migrated from 🐦 like lots of folks, where I was really just a lurker. Felt too toxic and challenging to engage by the time I landed there. Hoping this can be different and more productive. News, politics, and nonprofits are my general game. Perfecting a modern art tower of unread books is my constant endeavor.
Hello - my #Introduction: I am an intensivist whose research involves the study of the physiology of critical illness using both mathematical modeling and clinical data. Enthusiastic about the possibilities of #MedMastodon #Physiology , #Physics, and #MedEd.
This post includes info how to self-verify your Mastodon account. Those blue checks mean nothing in Mastodon. But you can verify your website. @gcluley https://grahamcluley.com/mastodon-what-you-need-to-know-for-your-security-and-privacy/
For all it's advantages and faults, #Mastodon was not built to be a *new* Twitter. It was built to be *not* Twitter.
That distinction is important.
I'm Jessica, a British #Ace in her 30s who recently discovered they're #ActuallyAutistic.
I made a Twitter account last year when I thought I had BPD, OCD & GAD. However, I struggled to connect to those communities, & later learned I was misdiagnosed. I still experience depression and anxiety, though now see these stemming from being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world.
Hello world. 👋
I'm Simon, a late diagnosed autistic (only found out earlier this year) and currently in some level of burnout, so not really many spoons for creating more elaborate intro right now.
I do have another Mastodon account, but hope to chat more about autism here.
My normal bio: #ActuallyAutistic. They/them. Pro Choice and 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 rights. SRE for Internet conglomerate. Interests: Human rights, #avgeek, tech. Speaks for myself only.
#MedMastodon and #MedEd folks, I need your help: What journal do you see a dual research/advocacy paper like the one below being published?
I have a bunch of medical students and mentors who quantified (lack of) #LGBTQIA representation in preclerkship medical education curricula and also 3 ongoing years of IRB-approved incoming student surveys about gender identity, sexual orientation, attitudes, career choices, and knowledge about LGBTQIA+ health topics. Along with recorded advocacy efforts and a whole booklet of inclusion suggestions made to block directors.
The overall intent of this paper is to make it easier for other students to follow and repeat at their institutions and track over time how increased inclusion may alter student knowledge after they finish preclerkship and move on to clinical years.
Where should this live? Would it be better of as 2 papers (student surveys separate from curriculum)?
Extremely stubborn MD/PhD student investigating pain and memory. I'm in my third year of a seven-year-long Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson pursuing my PhD in #neuroscience.

All posts are personal opinions and do not represent any specific institution I'm affiliated with, but the academic world would probably be way better if they did.
