If you're wondering more about me, I am a Ph.D. candidate at Mississippi State University. My area of expertise is on tornado and severe weather protection, and I've been working on finding unique and new ways to protect families and communities.
One of the projects I have is a tornado shelter map that I have spent over a year working on. I'd like to make it more convenient for users but it has already had over 41,000 views. The link to the map is here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1CmSTiHw8ik73XO40MhMSeNdejCl9zAcF&ll=35.77238194350063%2C-98.34417972570515&z=5.
I'm hoping to keep building things up for the #severeweather, #scicomm and overall #science communities as well, although it can be so challenging for me dealing with disabilities as well. I know some of you can relate!

Spent this week at #AMS2023. There were a lot of great people there and great things learned. Hopefully I will build up new connections going forward that will allow me to thrive!
2022 was a year that started rough for me but built up for the better as it moved on. Started to really build up my confidence level with my work and do more things. Finally got out more, and stayed healthy too. Now on to 2023...a big goal awaits...
If all goes as planned, I will have my Ph.D. this spring or summer, and the title of Dr. Craig Ceecee. What lies beyond that remains to be seen but I'm working on things.
After an incredibly busy day yesterday, I realized the value of the work I have done. It has been picked up by television stations and other outlets as well, both for reporting and for usage to help their own viewers.
Hopefully some people actually used the shelters based on my mapping products and hopefully it actually saved lives.
I find that Mastodon can be a useful place to quietly communicate with people with shared interests. It avoids the fighting that can exist on Twitter (especially in the Musk era). The downside is that it lacks the reach and can sometimes be an echo chamber. However, what happened to constructive criticism? Instead people just get so mad and call people traitors and evil and the like now...
Feels like we're starting to near critical mass with #weather folks moving on over.
Created a form to fill out your #wxtwitter to #wxmastodon matchup. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfALCNv2I0WRmGpoNDn34PPDH0aHrqIdbWUGCkoFMmgQCbKzw/viewform

On a positive note, today I submitted my draft post-doctoral proposal, which builds on my Ph.D. dissertation. In addition, my dissertation is now about 90% complete and I have the body written, now just need to get the conclusion and defense going. Things are moving! #WxMastodon #SciComm #severeweather #phdlife #academicmastodon
@sonyah I've been incredibly frustrated lately by Twitter and all that has happened. I just wish there was a better way to communicate to a large number of people at once.
@DataDrivenMD The whole thing has become awful with Twitter, and the hatred and misinformation is just sad now. Elon needs to run away, far far away. Ideally, it will get sold again to someone with a real business plan, not an ego.

@DeannaMarie208 It's great to see you here! I'm trying to build the core network while keeping this largely for a few people (at least for now). But I know you and the other friends I have are so valuable.
