My current research involves interviewing U.S. congressional staffers about how decisions are made in the Senate & House & who they trust for accurate information.

The work isn’t published yet, but I can say it’s shocking how much of what happens in politics is now influenced by #Twitter specifically & knowing how sound bites will land there. This is one of many contributors to extreme political polarization.

So if Twitter burns down 🔥 we may be better off. #TwitterMigration

@Sheril Do you think it was right for journalists to leave Twitter while it's in the middle of such a massive change? If Elon's takeover is the Internet-changing event it's made out to be, shouldn't journalists be documenting it on Twitter directly? Who's documenting the moderation changes and such?

@FediJoshJ @Sheril I don't think journalists are leaving twitter. The users are. There is a mass exodus of users, including myself, because we all figured out we can read twitter and our favorite journalists on twitter for free, without being monetized and algorithmed. I personally prefer the way I see what I want to follow in my feed on the Mastodon site, and I hope others will prefer it as well.
