Post.news has a business model. Not throwing shade here. Social Media is expensive but my employer would probably not let me take anyone’s money/points. I may have to delete my profile.

@palafo Interesting point about tips in your position, I hadn't considered that. FWIW I've noticed a few other NYT folks there (e.g. Jo Becker, Apoorva Mandavilli). I wonder if it would matter if you never connected your account to any payment system, and never cashed out your tips. If they just sit there as unused "points," is that less ethically complicated?

@palafo
Isn't it a dangerous trend for Post to try to build a culture where people providing news are paid by anonymous readers for each post? How can that not affect what they write? It's an avenue for vested interests to warp what's delivered as news.

@capitolhunters @palafo But there is also the argument that the readers will decide what gets written by virtue of they article choices. The providers will write what people will pay for.

@Clif
Unfortunately, the mob is an ignorant lot. How does this not feed clickbait?
@capitolhunters @palafo

@notroot @capitolhunters @palafo One would hope that the combination of moderation and the thought of having to pay for something would thin out the mob. 😆 Remains to be seen I guess.
