A lot of the folks who became climate deniers started out fighting air pollution regulations, and never really left that fight. I wrote something about it for Rolling Stone, but my editor there left, took it to The Guardian and editor there left too, so it sat. Last week I realized the main guy in the story I'd been working on is at the same org as the folks suddenly fighting renewables again. So many zombie arguments! #OnThisDay, 28 Nov 1967, PhD student Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovers the existence of pulsars.

Not included in the 1974 Nobel prize for the discovery, Bell received a £3m prize for her work in 2018. She's using it to set up a foundation to improve diversity in STEM.

I am a commentator in print and social media on the politics of the climate crisis and focus on challenging climate denialism.

I have authored a book "Carbon Politics and the Failure of the Kyoto Protocol" and working on another "CLIMATE BRAWL: Climate Denialism in American Politics."

I have a Ph.D. in chemistry and am an elected Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

Great "how it started / how its going" metaphor here from @waiterich on the decline of Twitter. Coral bleaching happens when the coral expel the algae because they are heat stressed. Hate speech and bad actors have a similar effect, making the environment hostile to the vibrant diverse voices we'd all come to enjoy there.

As an unusual 2022 Atlantic #hurricane season officially ends this week, #climate records suggest we may be significantly underestimating future risks of storms.

Even recent years of record storms like 2020 and 2021 were far less stormy than periods centuries ago, according to studies of sediment cores.

I also addressed the “what about antifa?” trope that is commonly used to deflect from discussions of far-right extremism & to try to make extremist violence seem like it’s a matter of two unruly sides “clashing” with each other. But the depiction of antifa put forth by the far-right (and the former POTUS) is largely detached from reality & has become a catch-all term for any/all left-wing activists or just perceived opposition, and is commonly used to identify targets for harassment or worse.
