Of Cannibals
Now, I'd like to very gently suggest that if a man in Montaigne's position, who was predisposed in every imaginable way to be prejudiced against native Americans, was able to see that he was in no position to criticise them when the society in which he lived was built up on more barbarism than the human mind can comprehend, then maybe you can too.
The word "essay", and the literary-philosophical form it describes, were invented in the 16th century by Michel de Montaigne.
Montaigne was, in his time, an extremely successful and wealthy statesman. In his older age, and following the devastating loss of his "best friend" Étienne de La Boétie, Montaigne decided to retire and dedicate his time to writing. He came to call the discursive, entertaining, argumentative texts he wrote "essays".
One of these essays is titled "Of Cannibals".

"Our analysis of more than two hundred samples of pay data provided by DoorDash workers across the country finds that DoorDash pays the average worker an astonishingly low $1.45/hour, after accounting for the costs of mileage and additional payroll taxes borne by independent contractors. Nearly a third of jobs actually pay less than $0 after accounting for these basic expenses."
