I don’t get the verification kerfuffle - given it’s promoted as a core issue by Elon, categorise it as a red herring.
It doesn’t slow or curtail incitement, disinformation or abusive behaviour - realDJT etc.
I think it’s a tool for targeted advertising and, in this country made users an easy mark for politicians to sue for small slights.
I know who to follow based on their track record. My trust in what they’ve said comes from track record not their social security number.

I don’t engage much with the other social media you’ve listed other than specific subReddits. But I haven’t seen them anywhere like as effective at disseminating and attributing importance to ideas/ventures & news. And that engagement then impacts noticeably in the real world.
Musk didn’t underrate it - it’s either a stupid 44 billion dollar vanity move or it’s worth that much to get it under his control (I actually think its mezzo-mezzo on that one).

Twitter punches well above its weight (combined user mass), at least here in Oz. Given the saturation, content and attention of journalists, academics, politicians and activists engaging. Their concise thoughts are easy to see & digest - barely obfuscated by ads or owner promoted content. It’s easy to curate your follows to get the cross section you want.
@Janecaro
You just tooted.

Alex Cohen is a parody account but the joke is well made.
The countries that already announced earlier phase-out dates for the internal combustion engine are on this neat overview by The International Council on Clean Transportation:
Yeah, everyone wants to work for a spoiled, rich jerk who demands their every waking moment be spent serving his vanity projects, who does not respect labor law, lectures them on subjects he knows nothing about & fires them at will. Real alpha. Super alpha. Alpha-fucken-Centauri.
Hey, if all the departing Twitter engineers (and others) formed a co-operative to start a new site, remember: Fuckface will be funding your income for three months to build it, and everyone here will pay you to maintain it. #RIPTwitter
I will give big points to the first news organization, big or small, that:
* Sets up an instance for its newsroom,
* Sets up an instance for the community it serves,
* Enables rel=me for staff,
* Creates a boost-on-Mastodon sharing function,
* Enhances that function so headlines/images (with alt-text) appear in the toot,
* Covers the Fediverse as more than a geeky curiosity or alt-Twitter,
* Listens to and joins in the conversation here.

Matthew Guy suggested that a Labor Govt should consult with the IPA.
The IPA refuse to tell anyone who funds them.
Who pulls their strings? Who are the advocating for?
Until they disclose, no politician should meet with them & no journalist should platform them.

All we have to do is tax them appropriately and we’ll bury their evil for a generation.
