@MibIH I didn't know he played piano. I guess he left it to Lou Martin. People seem to forget about his acoustic work. "Going to My Hometown" is an astonishing mandolin performance. It was very eye-opening to follow the growth of that piece of music throughout the years.
He surrounded himself with incredible musicians. I have this story in my head--besides being graced with his talent, he also had the ability to transfer some of his talent to others, making them the best they can be.
@Dimestorehalo Ah, mea culpa. I double checked and piano wasn't on the list of Rory's played instruments, though banjo and coral electric sitar were. 😳
@MibIH I guess we both forgot harmonica. I'll bet there was some ability to tickle the ivories, so your mea culpa might be premature.
@Dimestorehalo He was certainly a musical polymath, not just in styles but in the instruments he played - guitar, piano, mandolin, alto-sax...
My fave album of his is Against The Grain as to represents this effortless blend of styles - blues, rock, country, jazz, and acoustic folk.
