I like this article for focusing on the ways the Mastodon experience is superior to Twitter.
"I find Mastodon restful. Like the first time you realized that TV is possible without commercials. Also, because journalists and scientists are leading the charge to Mastodon, my feed seems to reflect a culture of knowledge, even leaning on peer-reviewed citations."
Thanks @tchambers!
@democracydocket Whoo.. a Writ of Mandumbass
One day around 32,000 years ago, an arctic ground squirrel ate parts of a plant, silene stenophylla, including its seed. The squirrel was digesting it when its life ended.
Its body was recovered from permafrost and examined. Scientists germinated this plant seed. This silene stenophylla just bloomed.
It is 32,000 years old.
The strength, the vitality and stamina of living things — of life itself — is incredible.
@jurijuri Another thing I have found for vitamins and supplements--I try to buy Solgar brand. They come in a glass bottle and have a regular, old style twist cap. Sometimes a little more pricey, but well worth it for the ease of use and the lack of plastic. I re-use the bottles to store smaller things inside my safe.
@jurijuri @Izzod@izzodlaw.com Where I live now, a major snowfall is usually pretty much melted in 3-5 days. A cold snap is followed by 40-50 degree days. We had 8" of snow 10 days ago, and very few traces. Not like Chicago, where it never leaves.
@jurijuri @Izzod@izzodlaw.com I can't say that the Tylenol poisoner episode was the last straw (winter actually did it), but I soon moved to the desert. I lasted just about as long in the desert as I did in the Midwest and then I had to move along to yet another climate.
@jurijuri @Izzod@izzodlaw.com I was living in the area during that time, finishing up college so I remember the hysteria
@Izzod@izzodlaw.com @jurijuri The foil is easier. I hate those little teeny tiny paper tabs that are half plastic.
You're nicer than I--I use a steak knife
@jurijuri @Izzod@izzodlaw.com The OTC bottles are the worst--cut off the plastic, unscrew the top, then try to pull off the next layer or cut through a layer of foil, then pull out the cotton. Alternatively, you have something like a bottle of Pepto where you have to hold both sides in and turn...Thank you Tylenol poisoner, where ever you are
@jurijuri You can also ask the pharmacist to note in your file that you don't want child safety caps and they will put them on that way from the beginning.
@marcelias I drew Bode for you as a thank you for all the incredible work you have done to keep this country afloat! You are so appreciated!
I usually paint the 'wilder' aspects of the countryside. I painted this #watercolour during a #pandemic #lockdown for our daughter who lives in #Edinburgh.
One more. This time, we're back at home: València and the popular City of Arts and Sciences (if you find it familiar, it was a filming location in movies like Tomorrowland and the Westworld series).
Photo taken with a mobile phone, by the way. I used to bring the camera mostly when travelling, but there were only a few travels in the last three years 😓
@ct_bergstrom This song with #BuddyGuy, #JeffBeck and #keithrichards might be a good send-off.
The editor of a conservative news site wished everyone a happy 2023 and urged them to “shoot guns and watch college football.” Ten days later, she shot herself in the foot while watching a bowl game. Usually, the amount of time between the “f around” and “find out” stages is a little longer than that.
“There is no such thing as 'Herd Immunity' for COVID-19. It is a concept as antiquated as the 'Earth is Flat'. With the exception of smallpox, no pathogen has ever been eradicated from the earth and with smallpox, eradication was achieved with a highly effective long-lasting vaccine. SARS-CoV-2 appears to be the most adaptive and dynamic foe we have ever faced and hoping that the antiquated concept of 'Herd Immunity' will save the day, is just pure fantasy.” https://eu.courier-journal.com/story/opinion/2023/01/04/why-herd-immunity-is-as-an-outdated-concept-when-it-comes-to-covid/69750170007/
MTG given a C&D letter from Dr. Dre. A wonderful nugget (suggesting maybe #akivacohen is giving lessons):
"One might expect that, as a member of Congress, you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country. It's possible, though, that the laws governing intellectual property are a little too arcane and insufficiently populist... an actual lawmaker should be making laws not breaking laws..."

#rorygallagher is the most underrated, unknown guitar god of all time.
The name is how I always understood the line from #T-Rex #bangagong instead of the actual "diamond star halo."
