This is really kewl...

The US Space Force is launching it's seventh mission on May 16th.

The X-37B will conduct a Naval laboratory experiment that connects solar energy and beams it down to a point in the form of microwaves.

This can power remote military installations or areas without power following natural disasters or even unmanned warships and aircraft that will only ever have to come into port or land when they need repairs, thereby remaining deployed indefinitely!

Larger scale systems can eventually power entire cities or countries!

Totally fucking awesome!

Transmission methods with rectifying antennas (rectennas) are currently via laser or microwaves, after covering the raw solar energy from the sun in space, and can be beamed from satellites in direct line of sight from there sun to other satellites on the dark side of the Earth where the energy is related down from there to aircraft, ships, and landstations.

An idea that I submitted to the Air Force when I was in elementary school could come to fruition with the blending of aircraft carriers and drones as hovering aircraft carriers in the sky - skyports!

How kewl is that?

I think "remote power transmission" is just a secondary perk for something that was obviously developed to be a weapon... I don't think the science behind it could be scaled to powering cities...
