Given it’s international women’s day, I’d like to encourage you all, but especially Dutch men to read these ‘anti-acknowledgments’ in a PhD thesis. This is not from somewhere else, it’s from Delft. And it’s not from the 1950s, but from the present. Unfortunately what academic life and culture in The Netherlands is still like. The author is just one of the few who actually spoke up about it, but there are many stories like it.

I'm not attending any protests today, but I am wearing my agency gear while going to appointments at home.
When I was traveling this week I didn't wear anything identifying. It seems to be getting awkward to represent your agency in some public spaces these days. Last week, I was wearing my hat and a woman on my flight asked what I did and I explained, then she said nothing else to me for the rest of the flight 🤷
Someone's taking pictures in San Francisco at an angle to make the streets look level. I feel simultaneously amused and triggered. (Seeing the cars level is what really fuels the illusion)
Wow, this really sucks... Just started to send emails to start canceling my research presentations and outreach that I had scheduled in the coming weeks/month 😔
I also have multiple papers stuck in the peer-review process with no idea what to do now. No access anymore to our research accounts, project data, code, and computational resources.

Excited to announce that we are recruiting a Research Associate for this #UKRI-funded #metascience research grant investigating the roll-out of Electronic Research Notebooks (ERNs)
For full details of the role, and information on how to apply, please visit https://www.jobs.manchester.ac.uk/Job/JobDetail?JobId=31714
This is a great opportunity to enhance research practice, support #OpenResearch and #FAIR data, and have a positive impact on researchers in #Manchester and across the UK
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WOMAN?
This is Emma Knight (15). She is currently missing. She lives in Naarm/Melbourne and is likely to be in Fitzroy or St Kilda.
Emma is a friendly but vulnerable young person who will probably be happy to chat with you. She is likely to be around older unhoused men looking for her father.
Please call 000 if you see her
"Still Life with Flowers," Rachel Ruysch, 18th century.
I've talked about Ruysch before, but to recap quickly, she was the best-documented woman painter of her time, with an enormously successful career, getting commissions from many wealthy and influential clients. Poets wrote elegies in honor of her death in 1750, and despite the fact that she specialized in florals, her work was highly praised and fetched high prices after her passing; she even outsold Rembrandt!
The daughter of a scientist and professor of botany, Ruysch depicted plants and flowers with meticulous detail, developing her own style that straddled the line between Baroque and Rococo. Even today, she is regarded as one of the most talented still life artists of all time, bar none.
Happy Flower Friday!
From the Hallwyl Museum, Stockholm.

@babyalligator That soup looks amazing!
And done. I had assumed building Crow would've been harder. I already have Tom Servo, I guess GPC/Gypsy is next.
In case you're wondering, I burned an expired PLA spool remains on this, so the print quality is what it is.
@JontyTownson @J_Cell_Sci Really cool review! I study lipid droplets, actin, and prostaglandin, and cell migration. This is something new to think about in relation to my work
Very happy to see the review I wrote on mechanosensing by the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) published @J_Cell_Sci! I’ve really enjoyed studying the ER and hope to contribute some research articles soon.
I don't know how to contact John Oliver. One of the options when you try to contact Joni Ernst, one of the Iowa senators, is "make em squeal".
I think they need to know about that. Please boost #USPol
@RickiTarr i married him
I kind of feeling like I am losing my grip on reality.#USpolitics
PhD in Cell Biology
I am a Research Scientist and lab manager for the Tootle lab in the Biology department at the University of Iowa. We use Drosophila oogenesis to understand the mechanisms regulating prostaglandin production and function. My particular interest is the developmental roles of lipid droplets and their connection to prostaglandins.
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
