I'm seeing a lot of very bleak messages here at the moment from people saying "I just can't take any more." As someone who has suffered depression and burnout for the last half-century (thanks, #autism ) all I can say is: you are not alone. Don't give up. Those feelings mean that you're a decent person, and the world needs people like you more than ever right now.
My credo, as ever, is simple. When things fall apart, make art. It helps. It really does.
Three good things:
1. My carpal tunnel brace is helping a lot.
2. My dad agreed that my mom needs to go into memory care because he can't take care of her.we found a good facility that he can move to as an independent facility resident so he will be nearby
3. There was not a nuclear war because we have a TACO as president, which helps when chickenshit Republicans won't speak up when they see something wrong but won't go against the cult

Two of the crew watched while I prepared the coffee maker last night. Henry, the long haired cat, is very shy. Bob Cat, the short haired cat, is missing his front right leg. He had an accident while living the feral life in Sevier County, UT #cats #CatsOfMastodon #feralRescue
Boosts appreciated
I am looking for a new job, specifically in embedded development or embedded security. I have been writing Rust professionally for 5 years, and am also comfortable in C. I've found vulnerabilities in multiple generations of NVIDIA hardware, and have held talks on this. If anyone knows of any openings, or would want to refer me (I am open to more broad Software Engineering work if it's via referral), I would appreciate it. I'm open to both remote work, and hybrid inside Berlin. I'm reachable either here, or via mail at mail@katze.sh
An occasional reminder that if you’re 50 or older and haven’t gotten two doses of the shingles vaccine, this is an effective vaccine that helps to prevent an extremely painful and potentially debilitating disease. While the vaccine gets a bad rap for being rough to deal with (not my experience, personally), literally every person I know who has had shingles has talked about getting shingles being really horrible. https://www.npr.org/2026/04/06/nx-s1-5745209/shingles-symptoms-vaccine-treatment
@afreytes in fact, on campus there is supposed to be a "debate" between the young americans for freedom (capialists) and the American communist party. Part of me wants to go, but I think both sides would make my head explode
@afreytes Believe me, I get it. I found the games, and the books, to make some really interesting political observations.
@afreytes they are nazi-like and communist-like
@afreytes My husband loves Company of Heroes ( the first one). If you like RTS games, you might like it. A weird take on Nazi killing games is Metro last light. They are Nazis in the Russian underground. There are communists too.
Besides Sniper: Elite (which I love) and Wolfenstein (which I dont...) or Indiana Jones (🤐)
Are there any other good games where you get to kill nazis? Which nazi-killing game is your personal favorite, your go-to?
_____
The reason I ask for "your personal favorite" is precisely because I am NOT interested in a list, I want your original feeling or thought, if I am worth it. Not on a listicle made for lowest common denominator or worse an "AI" article or response. Please!?
I haven't seen a post of this here with alt text, and I promise that those using a screen reader also need to experience this thing of great beauty from the print Onion that comes to our apartment.
@brianbilston Very good 👏
A have a memory of reading a #scifi book once in which the letters of the alphabet decided they'd been abused for too long and started walking off the books, leaving increasingly blank spaces on the pages. I cannot remember the title or the author - maybe somebody knows?

PhD in Cell Biology
I am a Research Scientist and lab manager for the Tootle lab in the Biology department at the University of Iowa. We use Drosophila oogenesis to understand the mechanisms regulating prostaglandin production and function. My particular interest is the developmental roles of lipid droplets and their connection to prostaglandins.
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
