We adopted a cat 2 weeks ago and took him for a vet check-up today. We had noticed a missing fang when we adopted him, but the rescue organization did not mention it to us and there was no note of it in his medical records.

The vet observed that the fang is not missing, it is broken, and our cat needs to have the tooth extracted. He told us to contact the rescue organization and see if they can cover the cost, which will be $1,800.

The organization included a trial pet insurance policy, but it does not cover dental care unless you pay for an upgrade. I'm guessing that the broken tooth will be considered a pre-existing condition and they won't cover it.

I guess I'll call both the rescue and the pet insurance company and ask - it won't hurt to try to get some help...

Any advice on how to approach this?
