PhD in Cell Biology
I am a Research Scientist and lab manager for the Tootle lab in the Biology department at the University of Iowa. We use Drosophila oogenesis to understand the mechanisms regulating prostaglandin production and function. My particular interest is the developmental roles of lipid droplets and their connection to prostaglandins.
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!

A while ago I discovered someone made an e-ink Portal-inspired calendar. Well last week I finally caved, and bought all the parts to make my own!
This was my first foray into using an ESP32 (as well as soldering) so all things considered, I'm happy that it's running at all given my lack of skills in the areas.

Emily Jazmin Tatum Perez was a West Point graduate. While serving in Iraq, she was killed in action by an I.E.D., the first black female officer in U.S. military history to die in combat and the first female graduate of West Point to die in Iraq.
The video documenting why she chose to serve in the Army and in combat has been deleted by the Army under the Trump Administration.

Happy Birthday Emmy Noether!!
She made many important contributions to abstract algebra. She proved Noether's 1st and 2nd theorems, which are fundamental in mathematical physics. She developed theories of rings, fields, & algebras. In physics, Noether's theorem explains the connection between symmetry & conservation laws.

Need a hopeful story? 22 students at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, 4 years ago, set out to "really inspire people and the market and society to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable future. What we’re trying to do is to show people and show companies what’s already possible.”
So they made a #solarpunk campervan fully equipped with living essentials including a double bed, sofa, kitchen area and a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. It can fit two people, who can drive, cook breakfast and watch television using just the vehicle’s solar-charged battery.

Happy Birthday to Mister Rogers, born March 20, 1928. Fred Rogers started every show by putting on a hand-knit cardigan. Who knit them? His mother! “That’s one of the ways she says she loves somebody. … When I put on one of these sweaters, it helps me think about my mother. I guess that’s the best thing about things. They remind you of people.” A great testament to the power of #knitting

Just lost my day job after 6 and a half years out of the blue with no warning.
