I’m not going to say there’s a lot of overlap between digital preservation librarianship and knitting, because this post says it more clearly than I ever could. digitalpreservation-blog.lib.c

Today in American science is fucked news:

Dear community,
my friend is thinking about joining Mastodon and/or the fediverse. Specifically, she is looking for the #spanish speaking #archeology community!
As we all know it is notoriously difficult to find a server that matches our preferences (language, region, interests, moderation policies...)
Aggregators like www.joinmastodon.org or #fedigarden rely on server #admins to register their instances (*cough I would not have found fedihum there)
edit: thank you! You helped a lot!

Went out to dinner by myself. This is a big step for me, I don't have anyone here to go out with, and I get uncomfortable and anxious on my own in public

I filed adoption papers for a cat. I don't know if I will get him, but I am in love

Took the day off and did a lot of cleaning

Roop "liberated" a birthday balloon someone gave to me yesterday

Cleaning a stovetop has never been this hilarious! 😊

I shall call him... Mini Servo!

I originally printed a soda can sized Crow T Robot as the prototype before going for the 1:2 scale one.

Now the mini Crow gets a mini Tom Servo as a friend so they can hang out together on top of the arcade's network rack.

RFK Jr. announced today that the Department of Health and Human Services would cut 10,000 employees.

If you have been impacted by the layoffs, our reporters want to hear from you. You can reach out to us on Signal at 917-512-0201 or by going to propublica.org/tips/.

I'm looking for a job. I have 30 years of experience doing complex systems programming in many languages, most recently Typescript, Haskell, and Python. I learn quickly. I can do advanced mathematics.

In 2024 I helped a company migrate 15,000 customers from another company into their own systems.

In 2023 I helped develop a differential privacy database product written in Haskell.

Before that I helped develop a laboratory information management system that tracked up to 40,000 Covid-19 tests per day.

I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, but I have years of success working remotely, and I am also willing to consider relocation.

Please check out my CV.

I met this cat today at the local cat Cafe. He is partially blind and is an absolute sweetheart. Should I adopt him?

Why don’t seagulls fly over the bay?

Because then they’d be bay-gulls!
