The Eye of Sauron might not have been truly omniscient, but try coming home carrying a bunch of cat meals that you intend to stash away behind your cats' backs without being caught by the Eye(s) of Tiffie.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun just posted:

"You're swimming against the tide making games like this": Why more developers didn't copy Firewatch's reactive storytelling

By the time Campo Santo were reaching the end of Firewatch's development, Chris Remo was itching to start over. "I remember feeling, 'God, if we made this exact same game again now, we could take these ideas so much further'." After Firewatch's ...

Does anyone know a museum or other institution that would be willing to take this large vintage railway wheel(?) press? It's marked "Chambersburg Engineering Co., No. 863", and a long time ago it was used to help maintain rail cars at the Port of San Francisco. Unfortunately it's going to the scrap yard this week because no museums we've tried are willing to come haul it away. boosts appreciated.

edit: Sorry folks, there was less time than I thought. It's already out the door this morning 😔

Um, hi, first post in the fediverse, kinda nervous. I'm Kaii (as in Kai with double i, not kali like the linux distro) and I'm a queer, autistic #vtuber from Poland.

I've been lurking for a couple days now, trying to figure out how all this works, but tbh I'm still not sure I get it 😅 so any pointers for a fediverse noob would be appreciated ^^

Also! Looking for moots, for that little bit of social-ness (?) on this social platform!

Writing my grad thesis atm that has nothing to do with AI as such and I want to write a bit on why I will not use LLMs in my work in the ethics section. We do have the standard "Was AI used in this work: Yes/No"- section to fill that gets added into these now, but I feel like that isn't enough. I need to make a stand, because that's me.

So, anyone who has seen very good citable works on the harms of AI, from the pov of:
Labor rights
Environmental impact
Learning
Etc.

Do share.

Someone on here recommended this site recently for background sounds and it is fabulous. There’s an app and web access. There are plenty in the free version and plenty more if you donate (web) or one-time purchase (app) - or both if you feel so moved.

I am really enjoying the variety of soundscapes and happy to support the creator: @mynoise

This weekend I got around to building these 3D printed bacteriophage. A friend gave me four flat pack assembly kits that they'd printed.

I can't remember if I posted this rant already. Somewhere someone is teaching all science students to use the stupidest slide.

The slide says:

I didn't know cottage cheese was an actual cheese.

It never a curd to me

I have finished the temperature blanket panel for 2025! This is a decade-long project. Each stripe represents the local daily high temperature in farenheit: red is 90s, orange is 80s, yellow is 70s, and so on.

To capture the entire winter and summer seasons, the first bottom row actually starts on November 1st of the previous year, and the numbers are placed on January 1st of the labeled year, and it continues up from there.
