@FlyBase Great resource! It's also relatively straightforward to convert red to magenta for the existing red/green images. In #FijiSc, you can do it with “Image > Color > Replace Red With Magenta” (see example below).
This could be an alternative for images whose licenses allow modification. I'm happy to help with the batch conversion if you need!
@flypapers
nice hsitorical context and review of BMP ffrom #drosophila perspective.

Do images tell the truth?
In #science #objectivity and truth in #images are key. Today, #AI in #microscopy is causing some debates: does it depict reality or hallucinates?
Believe it or not, these discussions are not new, but ongoing since scientists started to use drawings for #SciComm

My annual call!
Please suggest a cool paper/preprint in your field in the last year or so!
For a course I teach, I am collecting papers on: cell/dev bio, microbio, neuro, maths/stats/CS/chem/phys applied to biology.
Students use one paper as the basis for a "research grant application" that they will write. So papers that are cool but also open doors to future study are ideal! Do you know one? It can be your own, I don't mind!

Hi. I have no clue what I'm doing here, what I anticipate to get out of this, or what to contribute. I've never used Twitter so this form of social media is new to me.
However, I am studying cyber security and thought this instance would be a neat place to hang out in. I stumbled upon Mastodon and the idea of the fediverse recently and want to learn more.
I find joy in technology, open source, herpetology, and a nice community.
If anyone has suggestions on anything including accounts to follow I definitely would appreciate it.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post if you're still reading this!

I'm going to have TWO full-time one-year #postdocs available from 1 April: one for a historian with knowledge of #medieval Latin #palaeography, one for a computer scientist/#programmer (or someone else with a proven ability to code software). The job descriptions will be out in January, but please re-post this and forward it on to people you think may be interested/qualified. I'm happy to answer questions. @medievodons @histodons
Still some time to apply the PhD project in my lab to work on neurogenetic mechanism underlying visually-driven sleep

PhD opportunity with Adam Dobson's group in Glasgow UK looking at microbiome-lipid metabolism. Pass on to any great students looking to do a PhD in microbiome-related work!
PhD in Cell Biology
I am a Research Scientist and lab manager for the Tootle lab in the Biology department at the University of Iowa. We use Drosophila oogenesis to understand the mechanisms regulating prostaglandin production and function. My particular interest is the developmental roles of lipid droplets and their connection to prostaglandins.
I love biology and teaching people about what is happening in cells. I also am really interested in microscopy.
I also like cats, horses and horseback riding, fish keeping (I have two aquariums), video games-particularly the Half-Life franchise and Half Life mods, and I have recently gotten into VR (NOT META!) so if you want to chat about any of these topics that would be great!
