The Press really doesn't understand the Fediverse, nor how decentralized social media works -- at all.
Take this article from the BBC. They call
#Meta's P92 a potential "greater rival to Bluesky or Mastodon."
No, P92 is joining the same social network that Mastodon is on -- which is called the Fediverse, tied together by a protocol called ActivityPub.
P92 and Mastodon are just two software currently in use with the Fediverse. Right now, I am using Pleroma, which uses ActivityPub. Other times, I'm using Calckey, Friendica, Pixelfed, etc. -- all which use ActivityPub.
And the rival isn't Bluesky. It's AT protocol, which Bluesky would use for their own version of the Fediverse -- but which hasn't happened yet because they're years behind ActivityPub.
You see, with open protocols, having to start "afresh" and "rebuild a community" will be a thing of the past.
