My friend the brilliant author Rachel Pollack is coming to the end of her life. She won the Nebula, World Fantasy and Arthur C Clarke awards. She is a world renowned expert on Tarot, and her books on Tarot are still regarded as the good standard. She created the first trans superhero, in Doom Patrol in '93. I will miss her very much when she goes. I am writing this at the request of her wife Zoe, to let her friends know that the end is soon, and to let the obituarists know too.
If you could see in X-rays, one of the brightest things you'd see in the night sky is the Vela pulsar. It was formed when a giant star's core collapsed about 12,000 years ago.
The outer parts of the star shot off into space. Its core collapsed into a neutron star just 20 kilometers in diameter. Today it's spinning around 11.195 times every second. As it whips around, it spews out a jet of charged particles moving at about 70% of the speed of light. These make X-rays and gamma rays.
The Chandra X-ray telescope took a closeup movie of the Vela pulsar! It shows this jet is twisting around:
The most interesting part of all this, to me, are the 'glitches' when the neutron star suddenly spins a bit faster. Let me tell you a bit about this.

Seeing protests in France, my initial thought was, "Man, the French are protesting AGAIN." But then I realized they protest so often because they are SUCCESSFUL at it, unlike in Western countries where our voices are often ignored. They are successful in implementing longstanding social and legislative changes. What's the difference?
I did a deep dive.

Breaking: Several were killed in a shooting at a Jehovah's Witness centre in Hamburg, Germany. Police on a large-scale operation in the area searching for the attackers. No motive is yet known.
Locals are advised to stay indoors.
After posting Robert F. Sargent's photograph taken on D-Day, with the title 'Anti-fascists disrupt a white supremacist gathering,' I felt compelled to explore the story behind it.
Please boost, historical stories like this are so important.

The French are launching historic protests and strikes against the government's pension reform, which raises the retirement age by ONE year. Roadblocks, shutdowns of universities and schools, and closures of oil refineries are among the planned actions for an entire week.
The French don't take any s**t.
Historically this doesn't end well for the ruling class.
