I saw that it was Aaron Swartz’ 36th birthday, and looked back at what I wrote about his case, and his suicide, almost ten years ago.

It all holds up, but it’s kind of darkly amusing to figure out that when I was writing this about how well people mask their depression I was profoundly depressed and nobody knew. So, QED, I guess?

@popehat I love this! In future, you may want to consider adding content warnings to posts on sensative topics like suicide, drugs, depression, politics, what-have-you. It collapses the post with a description of what's in it so that someone who follows you--or someone who follows your followers who boost you--won't be negatively impacted while scrolling their home timelines. You can read more about them here: docs.joinmastodon.org/user/pos Hope you're enjoying Mastodon!

@objectinspace I have mixed feelings about that, to be honest. My desire not to upset people is contrary to my desire to fight the notion that mental illness is shameful or should be hidden.

@popehat @objectinspace Ken, glad you’re still here. Our family has had to deal with the after affects of mental illness, thanks for your help in making it less of a stigma.
