IPv6 Rant

Okay, maybe it's me, so please tell me if I'm wrong 💁🏼

I set my #OPNSense #IPv6 RaDv to advertise this additional route:
fd00:a:b:123::/60

But my laptop received this: fd00:a:b:120::/60

If I change the Prefix length to /56, my laptop receives that: fd00:a:b:100::/56

Only if I go down to /48, it works as it should: fd00:a:b::/48

Why can't devices work with various subnet lengths 🤬🤬

@9Lukas5

Im just eyeballing this so I might be wrong, but I think the 0x0003 of that last 0x0123 falls outside the /60 and gets masked out (I think that 3 is bits 63 and 64)

IPv6 Rant

@Gbudd Ooof, jup my fault:

I have to write 1230, otherwise it's interpreted as 0123 😬

Thanks

@9Lukas5

Happy to help, I find that parsing all the different ways a v6 address can be written to be really confusing
