I hate that this is my first proper toot but here we go I guess. The situation at $dayJob is dire and I'm in search of a new place.
I'm a full stack software engineer with 4y experience with expertise in back-end, systems programming and real-time embeeded software. I do C++, C, Rust, Python, TypeScript and tbh whatever you throw at me I'll do it allright. If you have a 100% remote gig hiring in Europe, I'd love to smash that technical interview.
I know that a lot of programmers are having a hard time finding work, and it is a shitty time to ask, but I just heard a rather concerning rumor... So...
If any of you happen to know of an opening for a programmer with a lot of experience with C, golang, and many other languages, with a lot of knowledge about cryptography and Internet standards, that pays well and is either in Portland or happy with remote work...
If you’re running a fediverse server without a DMCA process, you could be exposed. Copyright’s “statutory damages” regime allows for massive and unpredictable liability. hello nerds.

It means a lot to me. I created every pixel, and I think it's the best visual work I've ever done.

I hope you like it. Yes, I do commissions.
It’s rare to see really good, accurate public reporting on what’s driving the economics of our electric sector, in jargon-free language that everyone can understand. So read this. It’s excellent. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/04/27/opinion/electricity-power-grid-infrastructure.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share
So, if you know someone with strong network security skills along with architecture, please send them my way.
Sadly I can only hire in NY, NJ, NC, TX, and IL. Annoying but far above my pay grade and I keep fighting it.
My colleague Jan Richter is hiring the first 8 developers for our new Euro-Office Performance Team at #IONOS. Together with @nextcloud we aim to bring a bit more sovereignty to Europe. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/herrrichter_hiring-eurooffice-ionos-activity-7451975895084580864-4IE-
If you program, you should read this piece.
"Ada's successes — the aircraft that have not crashed, the railway signalling systems that have not failed, the missile guidance software that has not misguided — are invisible precisely because they are successes. The languages that failed visibly, in buffer overflows and null pointer exceptions and data races and security vulnerabilities, generated the discourse. [Ada did not]"
@nixCraft Thanks for posting this. I will be contacting my Illinois State Senator first thing Monday morning to voice my opposition.
After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X.
This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵 (1/5)

It's #WomenInTechDay! Today we highlight Marie Van Brittan Brown, who security experts now recognize as pioneered home security.
A nurse wanting to make her home secure, she invented an audio-visual home security system, helping create the security tech industry as we know it.

@crispius I’ve had a heat-pump water heater in my unfinished basement for the last 3 years or so. No one lives in our basement, so not quite the same situation as yours. I’m guessing your basement is finished? If so, and you end putting the HPWH in a separate room, I don’t think you’ll notice any temp difference at all. Ours doesn’t actually run that often, so it’s not always blowing cool air into the space. And in the summer, it would be a bonus.
Today is the day. Please do whatever you can to experience #ProjectHailMary in the cinema. A passion project for everyone involved and once again I was fortunate to colour the amazing photography of Greig Fraser and got to work with for the first time with the brilliant Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

So the answer to the big mystery Who Owns Bluesky? (https://mastodon.online/@mastodonmigration/116025246450023071) is finally out. Crypto VCs.
Now, we should be asking why did this company that prides itself on transparency and "decentralization" decide they needed to hide who owned the company?
Sometimes you end up typing gail.com (typo) instead of gmail.com and you get this nice little website. Hah!
