How you wash your hair in space: demonstrated by astronaut Karen Nyberg on the International Space Station.

A thought I keep coming back to:

If programming is a large part of your life (professionally or not), then it's remarkably difficult to completely waste your time while programming.

It often _feels_ like it, whenever you didn't solve the immediate problem. But skill is your most important resource, and every line you write trains and builds skill.

Even code you shouldn't have written, or that reviewers hate, or that doesn't work.

Sometimes it's _only_ practice – but that's still not nothing!

So, after being laid off a few months ago, I find myself still looking for work.

If you are looking for a senior software engineer who has specialized in Python work for twenty years, and who has worked in virtually every area of software from embedded firmware to GUI applications, with almost 20 years as a full-time remote employee, contractor, and consultant, I'm available.

Full resume available, references upon request.

If you know someone looking for such, I'd appreciate you referring them to this.

Thanks!

Interesting new #paper that explores the link between different / changing usage of #news and public #trust in what's reported – published in the Journal of Communication.

The researchers explored data from 46 countries (2015 to 2023).

Quick insights:

There's been a small overall decline in trust in news since 2015.

Different countries, different trends!

Holy shit.

The Russian gov send in an abuse request for the @Bellingcat to be removed from mstdn.social :amaze:

I am not gonna comply, and have replied to Hetzner

No way I'm gonna let the evils of the gremlin dictate stuff on anything I host

UPDATE: Hetzner ignores their requests and we're in the clear: mstdn.social/@stux/11366257336

Republicans: States should be able set standards for important things, like reproductive care.

Supreme Court: Mmm, okay, that sounds about right.

Democrats: Okay, so that means states should be able to set vehicle emission standards, too, right?

Republicans, out of the other side of their mouth: Hey, no! You can’t do that! All states should be treated equally!

Hi all, I've just started yesterday in Mastodon, so I'm a noob here. I am a young radio amateur from Palencia, Spain (IN71RX), but now living in Lille, France (JO10).
I love listening to and communicating over the HF bands and I'm learning how to use the amateur satellites.
I also love manufacturing antennas and spending hours and hours learning about electronics and science.
And also I like cybersecurity, networks, signal processing and playing with SDRs.

So I've been notified that my role is at risk. Would anybody like to hire a me.

I've spent the last 7 years as chief architect, which realistically meant doing every job from infrastructure to product and occasionally acting CTO. For the last two years I've been merging platforms of two billion dollar companies.

I am interested in everything, and curious to try new things.

I like python and postgres, but happy to quickly pick up any stack. You do not want me anywhere near your frontend code.

This video is one of the most important videos I have seen on the #Ukraine war.

@anderspuck explains why both Trump and many EU politicians are completely wrong about the war. Because they think, success is defined by reaching a ceasefire and peace negotiations, when in fact those negotiations are what can deliver a victory to Vladimir Putin, moments before he would otherwise have lost the war.

I hope Mr. Puck gets a gazillion views on this one:

Insurance is not health care.

The media needs to stop referring to Brian Thompson as a healthcare executive. He was an insurance executive; a corporate exec in a capitalist society.

Denying health promotion and disease prevention care is the antithesis of healthcare.

Hey, friends. We’re hiring a software developer.

BookNook is a really awesome place to work. And we do good in the world by helping kids learn how to read and improve their math skills.

If you want to work on the Product team with me and some other really cool folks, check out the post for more info.
