I'm reading about the collapse of complex societies and going back and forth between books and google because there is so much I don't know about the historical people in these books. Also, and I imagine this will offend some, I think that actually throwing money at space travel and fantasizing about living on other planets right now is sort of like fiddling while Rome burns. Don't you think so? Oh well, I guess we all have to occupy ourselves in some way while we wait for disaster.

@Hortense what are you reading? There’s some really interesting work done on the Bronze Age Collapse.

@birdiefire That's what I'm reading about -- the Bronze Age Collapse. 1177 B.C. is the first one, then I have a couple more on my Amazon wish list, one is a book by an author named Tainter, can't remember the title. What do you recommend?

@Hortense there’s a few YouTube channels that have done really interesting videos on it. Historia Civilis and Extra Credits are the two I’m thinking of.

@birdiefire Thanks - I'll check them out. I love youtube. I watched the lecture by the author of the 1177 B.C. book, it is what made me interested in the subject. And, of course, the collapse of our current complex society is on my mind. If right-wing despots with nuclear weapons don't do us in, we know climate change is going to.

@birdiefire OK, I subscribed to both of them. I'm a night owl, this will give me plenty of things to watch when my brain is fried from reading and googling what I'm reading.
