Feels like such a hurdle coming to this platform. Steep learning curve and long onboarding process, compared to others.

Choosing an instance itself is too much overhead, causing decision fatigue, it becomes a barrier in participating in the space. Even now I'm feeling like maybe I'm "misplaced" 😟

But ... I will learn. Perhaps I need to actually use this platform exclusively in order to be immersed and exposed to all the features, and then maybe I'll learn to appreciate it.

@mariatta I switched over to here back in late April as my primary. That helped a LOT to get used to everything. And now I've switched over fully with the other place only getting a check of my notifications once per day or less, and only selected content getting pushed over.

I can only recommend to go in fully, because otherwise it is trickier to get used to things. Humans don't like change, and it gets harder to get used to it when you are only doing it a bit on the side.

@mariatta And don't fret over your chosen instance. Switching is really really easy if long term you don't like it. As in, it's built into the software.

@foosel @mariatta I think it's overstating how good it is to say that switching is very easy. I imagine that to most people posts and replies they made would be crucial part of migration, especially if the old instance could disappear in future (ideally announced beforehand like with mastodon.technology) and afaik it's not part of the migrated data. Being able to set up redirects and migrate people you follow and your followers certainly makes the experience better but I would say the available migration functionality still misses the crucial part.

@JakubKuczys @mariatta Agreed. I meant switching the account and followers itself, NOT the content, I should have made that more clear.
