That was weird. I just got a notification "Enjoy this block". No explanation, just a block from someone I never heard of. I am not an airport, no need to announce your departure. I don't even know who you were. There is nothing to enjoy or despair over.

Is racism acceptable from a minority, or sexism acceptable from a woman? Is it OK for a deaf person to be a bigot when it comes to firing an autistic guy?

I'm curious, when confronted by overt sexism, racism, etc, do you ignore it, attempt to make the person self-aware, or attack? What if it's an acceptable form of bigotry according to society? What it is a minor form of bigotry?

@JonKramer Yes. I was an outlier in 2016 when people in more culturally dominant and sophisticated bubbles than mine — I live in the deep-red state of Arkansas — were scoffing at the notion Trump could win. I knew better. And I turned out to be right.

One of my parrots has decided over the last week to nest under my chin at night.

The only problem, is the mosquitoes are out full force today... I hadn't noticed that they were missing!

72 Degrees f (22C)this morning... Wow that feels so good.

There are very few problems in life that can not be solved with high powered explosives.

Your body can build up tolerance to rising sea levels, hazardous air quality, and dying ecosystems. Here's how.

This week, I went over to Bluesky and asked people who'd left Mastodon why they left, and lots of people told me. I grabbed the replies and crunched them and wrote up a summary. I think it's really interesting and often kind of wrenching.

You live on stolen land. Yes, you. Here is a map you can look at to see who it was stolen from:

My mother wrote a book about poetry, how to read it. She was a teacher for most of her life.

Any ideas on how to self publish it? She isn't interested in making money on the book, she just wants to share her work.

Dolophones conifera, the "wrap around" spider did *nothing wrong* -- these spiders are literal wall flowers (branch buds?) and just want to curl up and not be noticed.

You can pick them up and they will run around in a panic until they find a place to "wrap" so they can feel safe.

They are unlikely to but, and if they do their venom isn't anything much.

Let them be poor things live in Australia with all kinds of dangerous creatures like bull ants and Australians.

My gods, I am tired. How tired?? I just confused Demosthenes and Diogenes in a comment about Midwestern cities.

Mock me as you will, I deserve it.

OLD THREAD REPOST

Some people have no uterus. Some people have one uterus. And some people have TWO uteruses! It's called uterus didelphys, and we have no idea exactly how common it is...

Here's some tips for all the newcomers on here:

-Introduce yourself by sharing your greatest fears and weaknesses. It is standard.

-If you wish to verify your account, simply post your social security number. We value security here, so remember to add in "I do not consent to any identity theft".

-Socialize by telling us who your favorite uncle is. It doesn't have to be your uncle. It can be anyone's uncle. Maybe you don't have an uncle. That's okay. No one will judge you for that.
