@F_Helmbacher The search function does not look for plain text by design to limit harassment. By focusing on # you only make your messages accessible to a broad audience if you want to (but then you should not forget to put them).
@JulienDelpierre And by the way, I didn’t find a way to see a list of the hashtags I’m following, so this is the reason I was (like you) listing them in a post.
@F_Helmbacher Indeed, I just wanted to clarify a bit just in case.
You should be able to see the # you are following in "modify account > follows" (it may be called differently in your instance).
A simple search does not make you follow a #, you have to create a "list" (which is a feed distinct from your main feed) and add them there through the aforementioned "modify account > follows" option.
However, this is not visible on your profile, therefore, one has to make a post dedicated to it (like we did) if one wants to share their interests.
@JulienDelpierre Oh thanks, this was super useful, I had missed that place, and will definitely use it to store my hashtags.
Regarding following them, there is a following icon once you select a hashtag on the top right corner (at least on my server). Once you follow, you will see posts of people using this hashtag irregardless of which server they are hosted by and whether you follow them or not. The follow icon is only on the computer browser, not in the iphone or ipad app though.
@JulienDelpierre Thank you for the explanation, I had figured that out, and didn’t chose the best way to express myself. I understand that the scope was to prevent harassment, and it’s what makes this place safe. What I meant is that we are all currently trying to learn how to navigate, and to reconstitute the network that we had in the bird app (as more and more people are joining). Using hashtags and following them is a way to see posts by people you are not following yet.
