#UseYourLibrary
I use my local library regularly. I borrow 6 books at a time. Libraries mean you can try authors, genres, new to you. My local library will help you with computers, genealogy, book groups and you can work there, study, join various groups or just sit quietly and read. The children's section has really good story tellers and there is a music library.
I cannot afford to buy books as often as I did when younger so libraries are a lifeline for folk like me.

In two weeks you helped us build here a community of over 42,000 people. Thank you for remembering with us.

Delighted that the bill to ban #TrophyHunting imports is one step closer to becoming law - huge congrats to all involved. Now we need serious funding for conservation ⁦⁦@CBTHunting⁩ ⁦@JaneGoodallInst⁩ ⁦@BornFreeFDN⁩

European Commissioner Thierry Breton just joined Mastodon!

His first post, published right after a call with Elon Musk, made it clear that there is still huge work ahead for Twitter to comply with EU law:

1. Reinforce content moderation
2. Tackle disinformation
3. Implement transparent policies based on objective criteria (i.e., not via Twitter polls)
4. Limit targeted advertising
5. Prepare for an independent audit

Being charged 20 quid on a magazine that costs 10£ by customs. Thank you Brexit voters, I can not stop telling you how disturbingly shortsighted you have been. Making the world a smaller and less tolerant place since 2016.

And still the ERG wang on about ‘respecting the referendum vote’. Pusillanimous little swine. #brexit #BrexitBrokeBritain . They would rather join some Pacific rim trade group…which will have rules and prob some FOM sub clause than allow EU citizens to come here and vice versa .

@krishgm I think it’s because you actually challenge the liars in government, whereas the BBC and ITV just facilitate and enable them?

Butterfly Nebula

"Though its gaseous wingspan covers over 3 light-years and its estimated surface temperature exceeds 200,000 degrees C, the aging central star of NGC 6302, the featured planetary nebula, has become exceptionally hot, shining brightly in visible and ultraviolet light but hidden from direct view by a dense torus of dust."

The universe is pretty amazing.

Homeless Man, Spitalfields, 1969 by Don McCullin. “I held his gaze and looked into the bluest eyes I had ever seen then brought my Nikon up to my eye and took the photo. He looked like one of those Neptune figures”. McCullin thought this was the best portrait he had ever taken.

540,000 children go to private schools. The state subsidises their places by at least £4bn or nearly £8,000 each.

State school students are given £6,500 each.

The state (you) spends MORE on Private school students than on State ones.

In 2020 the UK Govt stole £Bns of public money & gave it to Tory supporters like Michelle Mone. Michelle bought a yacht with her £29m.
£37b went to Matt Hancock's pal Dido Harding for a failed Covid testing scheme - money's gone.

Remember that time Matt Hancock gave his mate, a pub landlord with no previous experience making medical supplies, a £30 million pound government Covid contract to produce vials for testing kits?

He just gave it to him after getting a WhatsApp.

Remember that?

Because I do.

So sick of the ‘anti foreign’ rhetoric. #Refugees. #International #Students. #NHS staff. Every vote they think they’re winning by this is a vote based on lies and won’t last. They can’t turn back time. The #UK is stronger for its #diversity and weaker for its prejudice. Division is cheap and dirty politics. Always has been, always will be.

I love it when someone finds out I’m an #atheist and cracks some lame joke about how you never have to ask, atheists & vegans will always tell you they’re atheist or #vegan.

But last I checked, atheists & vegans don’t go around knocking on doors, wearing atheist & vegan symbols on a necklace or erecting 200 ft highway-side reminders that we exist. We certainly don’t vote or lobby for policies that would force you to live by our rules. No, lovelies, that’s Christianity.
