I'm a #driver (albeit low mileage & rural), but I don't want #RishiSunak to be on my side... what I want is some leadership to start to do something more about the #climatecrisis - I would have thought it would be the absolute priority for anyone who cared about their country..... oh, hold on

Good to hear astronomer Martin Rees on BBC #PM explaining that UK membership of #HorizonEU strengthens Britain's research collaboration with the rest of the world.

Wild Camping has been restored on #Dartmoor after a successful court appeal.

Let's use this as an opportunity to sort out the right to roam across England and Wales. We all need access to nature, and the closer we are to nature, the more we care about it.

Mathematician, computer scientist, and WWII code breaker Alan Turing, who established the theoretical foundation for just about every modern computing device, was born #OTD in 1912. His work helped make it possible for you to read this.

The British government prosecuted him for being gay, a monstrous act that eventually led to Turing’s death by suicide. Then they waited 50 years before issuing a pardon.

"Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.
But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.
A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said."
We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized.

7 years on from the #Brexit vote – how's it going? #NHS no better funded, wages no higher, food no cheaper, politicians no more accountable. The charlatans sold us all a lie. If we want the "prosperous & safer future" we were promised, we need some honesty about #Brexit.

Unelected Prime Minister Billionaire Rishi Sunak whose wife was avoiding tax with her non dom status.....yeah sure "we" are going to get through it

How about the £21 billion in fraud while you were Chancellor? How about your hedge fund mates stopping being offshore to dodge tax?

A climate activist in #NewZealand faces 10 years in jail after a court found her guilty of forgery for sending a fake letter to the speakers at an oil industry conference, telling them it had been postponed due to the climate crisis.

'It was a surprise. I’m reminded of the topsy-turvy world we’re in. It shouldn't be the grandmothers on trial, it should be the oil industry, it should be those people who are making massive profits off the destruction of all of
our futures'

Being a dad is the greatest joy of my life.

Today, I’m remembering my dad and all he did for our family.

Happy Father’s Day.

Yet again I've written to @SouthernWater about latest reports of sewage in sea at #Brighton & #Hove. Yet again water firms fail to take action. Yet again this complacent Govt fails to hold them accountable. #CutTheCrap #EndSewagePollution #SewageScandal

The US does not have a healthcare system. It has a medical industry based on shareholders and the bottom line, like any other corporation.

The reason why inanimate objects are used in slogans about humans is to make people more comfortable using them casually.
“Stop the boats” is not for those who have no problem being hostile to others based on race or creed. It is for those sitting on the fence of overt prejudice.

After briefly falling for his schtick in 2008, I will always be proud that our little radio show provided an almost unique place in the U.K. media where the full extent of Johnson’s personal & political depravity could be detailed. And I will always be amazed at the depths to which countless client journalists sank in his service. No doubt they will continue to demean themselves & their profession in his defence.
