People who come to Denmark often think our capital Copenhagen is the most popular tourist destination. It is not.

While Copenhagen does sell around 6.4 million nights per year, our top destination is actually the North Sea coastline — in danish called Vesterhavet — with 8.5 million nights sold per year. It is shown here in the yellow frame.

We are especially grateful for the many Germans who rent hotel rooms and summer cottages to enjoy the west coast nature and the endless beaches.

@randahl I wonder how large share of those 8.5 million is short stays in the Billund area for visiting ?

@MiVyoo only a few I think. Most people who come only to visit Legoland, choose to stay nearby, and if they do, they are not counted in the statistics for the North Sea area.
