@sarahlane I do *not* understand people’s preference for dark mode (in practically anything). I find it far harder to read white text on a dark background.

@frpaul1 Obviously a genius move, how can we mere mortals comprehend the thoughts from such a mind 🙄

It’s very dreich outside so here’s some bonnie carboniferous limestone to brighten your day 🖤 The rock is predominantly composed of the fossilised remains of crinoids. Crinoids are marine animals (echinoderms) related to starfish and urchins and they show gorgeous five fold radial symmetry ⭐️ #geology #palaeontology #scottishgeology

I will give big points to the first news organization, big or small, that:
* Sets up an instance for its newsroom,
* Sets up an instance for the community it serves,
* Enables rel=me for staff,
* Creates a boost-on-Mastodon sharing function,
* Enhances that function so headlines/images (with alt-text) appear in the toot,
* Covers the Fediverse as more than a geeky curiosity or alt-Twitter,
* Listens to and joins in the conversation here.

@Billius27@mstdn.ca @EricCarroll I like this. Keep the Twitter connection, though, this info needs a wide audience.

@nilikm It’s really amazing the changes those schools have gone through over the years. I taught at Canterbury when it was struggling with ~700 students, and the Arts Program was just getting rolling. Decades roll on, and neighbourhoods evolve…

Eye doctor appt. this morning, so if anyone needs me I'm just gonna be sitting in my office like this.

Climate change, non-political use of the word “notwithstanding”

Despite the climate change crisis, or probably because of it, Ontario has been hit with some nasty cold spells in recent years. Blame the “polar vortex.” This graph shows that, polar vortexes notwithstanding, things are getting warmer.

@blurrybitsphoto@mastodon.online Nice 😊 I was surprised to learn a few years ago that the dust cloud that gives the Pleiades that beautiful wispy appearance is not actually the one the stars originated from. They’re just passing through it…
Lucky us that we’re catching them at this “moment” 👍

Me: alright, before this meeting starts, I want everyone to go pee. I don’t care if you don’t feel it, you need to try.
