When the volcano is in its sleeping mode, it is possible to filter out the volcanic signal:

Now, because lava crossed the access road to the station and cut off its power lines, the station is not operational.
There are a number of other CO2 sampling stations around the world. Hopefully it will be possible to get the Mauna Loa station back to work soon.
Con esto de seguir #Mosstodon mi timeline se ha llenado de musgo. Me gusta.

And so every year we stomp on their chains and drag away the sawhorses and assert our right to use our space as best we can. And this year, someone has chained a snow shovel to the railing, so that we can help our neighbours.

I’m so proud of my #Centretown neighbours. Every winter the City of #Ottawa installs anti-pedestrian infrastructure at the corner of #DundonaldPark, a park used very heavily, especially by the thousands of us who don’t have yards and/or cars here. It’s not enough to *warn* residents that they won’t shovel the stairs. They also try to block off the railing so we have to slalom down the icy hillside with no support.

I just read in today’s Globe and Mail that: “Queen’s Park has also agreed to pay the city of Toronto for money it loses because of Bill 23 – a piece of housing legislation, which was signed into law this week, that waives some development charges to spur construction.” Lets just remember that we, the taxpayers, pay our income tax to Queen’s Park - so Ford is promising to let the breadwinners in the province pay for Developmental costs for the Developers …+
Saturn has at least 83 moons. Titan, the largest, is bigger than the planet Mercury and if you count the extent of its atmosphere the largest in the solar system. Enceladus is home to massive cryovolcanic plumes and is one of the best places in the solar system to look for signs of microbial life. Hyperion looks like a sponge and Mimas looks like the Death Star.

I like a good debate that introduces me to other perspectives. I don't waste much time with people who devolve to name-calling or insults, aside to call them out on it.
I think society performs at its best when we take care of others, especially the weakest among us. That means a strong social safety net, with "free" healthcare, education, and public transit. It's a dream, I know.
30+ years of explaining stuff to teenagers has left me with some habits... I'm not a mansplainer, but I *do* like to find ways to 'splain stuff to receptive ears 😊
I like dogs, cats, and astronomy pictures with a bias towards the shorter wavelengths (kinda leaves out all those lovely Hα pics 😄).
The first thing I look at when shopping for cars is headroom/legroom. Saves a lot of time.
