“Researchers at #MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms are working on an ambitious project, designing #robots that effectively #self-assemble. The team admits that the goal of an autonomous self-building robot is still “years away,” but the work has thus far demonstrated positive results”

I've been reading Martin Weller "Metaphors of edtech" A good read to deepen our understanding of edtech.
👋 Hello from #Zurich!
I'm a researcher working at the intersection of #neurosciene and #ai. Before joining Google's #connectomics team earlier this year, I did my PhD advised by @jakhmack on simulation-based Inference (#sbi).
Excited to see Mastodon gaining momentum!
For many many years I've reviewed and recommended kids' books about space. After a couple-year hiatus, I'm finally back at it! I'll use this thread to review and recommend books to give to kids of all ages, or to libraries or schools.
I have a biiiiiiiiig pile to sort through. First up: my recommendations for kids ages 0-3:

You certainly don't get #skies quite like this here in the UK! This is me under the spectacular #starry skies above the #ESO #LaSilla #Observatory in #Chile. Above and to the right you can see the Large and Small #MagellanicClouds. These are relatively small galaxies that orbit our #MilkyWay #Galaxy. Literally galaxy moons!
Any time you need to escape from this world, drop by the PlanetaryLightShow site & watch flickering auroras on Saturn and Jupiter. Beautiful and mind-boggling.

'Laugh now...' Banksy's monkey trade mark is valid.
The 5th Board of Appeal of the EUIPO confirms it.
In a decision on Case R1246/2021-5, the Board of Appeal annuls the cancellation of the EUTM and rules that there is no bad faith (the Cancellation Division considered that Banksy never had any intention to use the mark).

Dipping a toe with my first “real” post. This story is from July, but I thought it might be of interest to folks who don’t normally follow math news or who might want to see the war in Ukraine from another perspective. I traveled to Switzerland to report and photograph this profile of Maryna Viazovska, who this year became the second woman to win a Fields Medal in the award’s 86-year history. https://www.quantamagazine.org/ukrainian-mathematician-maryna-viazovska-wins-fields-medal-20220705/
It's such a simple thing but it's so very beautiful, when moons and other planetary bodies come together. And the camera team lead by @carolynporco for Cassini were absolute masters at catching these events.
