Once Twitter started injecting tweets into timelines based on likes, Retweet became a redundant feature too. Liking a tweet had the same basic effect as RTing it.

Here in elephant land a decision was made to have these two things express a different intent, and with no algorithm that makes sense.

But I do think Mastodon can give the people who miss QT what they want without breaking Mastodon.

You could even have a "Quote Toot" button, it just does a reply and self-boosts it automatically.

What's up next for :graze: Graze for Mastodon in 2023?

• Remote replies, mentions, and direct messages, #QuoteToots (kinda)

• Toot this page, toot this image, and toot highlighted page snippets from websites

• Compatibility with non-english Mastodon instances & Localised interface (I'll need some help with translations!)

• A lot of other fun stuff....

So I still have no idea what I am doing over here, but am trying my best. Anyway if you want a medieval historian of sexuality and apocalypticism on here, now you have one, I guess? #Introduction

@DrEleanorJanega Your book sounds fantastic! It's about time we started hearing more about women in earlier times. As a non-historian who's looked around some, mostly I see Christine de Pizan, although I knew of Hildegarde due to her music.

Thank you, I'm looking forward to reading this! And I'm glad you're on Mastodon 😊

The medieval abbess Hildegard of Bingen's was a polymath & force of nature. And right on eels! Most medieval thinkers believed that eels regenerated asexually. But Hildegard suggested that eels mated at sea, where we can't watch. No one listened to her. But she was right!

@TheGentYYC Wow! This is beautiful.

Thanks, I like them but I've never heard this before.

#BlueChristmas by #TheLumineers is haunting & lonely & sad & just so utterly *tragic* which is exactly how it's supposed to be. Different enough from the Elvis version to merit its own spot on #TheVeryMerryGENTmasPlaylist. Mournful, beautiful harmonizing

This isn't a movie but I love it and haven't watched in a long time. The theme of accepting others seems like a good seasonal message ❤️🎄

Time for a new #Introduction post.
Hi! I'm Kelly. I like #StarWars and #DoctorWho and most other usual sci fi universes. Weapons-grade nerd and pharmaceutical-grade goofball. I spent many years covering #Apple at TUAW and The Mac Observer. I host some podcasts and appear on others. Day job is IT. An originator of #pdxtst and a long suffering smart home enthusiast. When not applying profanity to technology I'm probably playing Pokémon Go, at karaoke, or doing something fun with yarn.

question: How long have humans been commenting on 🎄 turning into a period of overindulging and forgetting about true meaning?

Take a guess...scroll down...

While you're thinking, I just heard a fascinating lecture by Dr. Ronald Hutton (sponsored by The Last Tuesday Society at thelasttuesdaysociety.org/) on the ancient origins of Christmas

That first gripe occurred in 384 CE by Saint Gregory Nazianzen 😜 The more things change...

It's a little wild to see people on Twitter embedding their mastodon handles in images like folks used to hide text to hide from Chinese censors on Weibo.

New episode! waywordradio.org/big-bang/ A many-named Sicilian sausage, the blurb and purple cow guy, book recommendations, bang in sick, salts through a widow-woman, gumple-foisted, como uña y mugre, Marco Polo word game, skipping school, a box with five handles, and more.

@revkin @sethbaum Hi Andy, thanks again for this excellent webcast!

I had an idea for a future topic if it would be a good fit.

I'd love to hear thoughts on how to get more experts active online in countering misinformation. For example, I have co-workers with backgrounds in immunology, virology, vaccine development, etc, but few seem concerned about misinfo or even aware of its extent on social media.

So many topics are vulnerable and more expert voices would be so valuable! Does anyone know effective ways to persuade???

Thanks for considering 😊

RT @VeraJourova
News about arbitrary suspension of journalists on Twitter is worrying. EU’s Digital Services Act requires respect of media freedom and fundamental rights. This is reinforced under our #MediaFreedomAct. @elonmusk should be aware of that. There are red lines. And sanctions, soon.
