The more I spend time reading stories about non gora people being reported and suspended off their Mastodon instances for mentions of racism or jokes about the goras, the more it kinda gets clear that a decentralized social media platform can't ever really have good moderation.

@mehluv where has this been happening? I'm in a quieter part of Mastodon it seems!

@NehaKhazanchi the bigger instances have been having trouble with moderation, there was a chinese origin US person who was temporarily banned for making a post about wanting non gora people's stories, another black US woman was temporarily suspended because someone impersonated her and then reported her for impersonation

@NehaKhazanchi tho tbh i also feel like these US people are at fault, they're coming to mastodon and refusing to understand it and then accusing the platform of centrally being racist after hearing about bad stories from a handful of instances and thinking it's all centralized

@mehluv woah, a lot been going on it appears!

Yeah, it's best to leave all preconceived notions behind and come here, but there's also the problem of how addicted we all are to various social media platforms. That dopamine not hitting immediately is probably making people restless.

This space seems a lot more chilled out, a bit more personal too. It grows on you. I will have to wait to comment on the trolling and harassment levels here (as a woman especially) coz I just got here. But maybe in time the trolls and fascists will get here too 🙂

@mehluv to add to your list, there's apparently this unfolding on my instance, and I've got to say I've been pretty unaware

@NehaKhazanchi this is... well, the language and title are v openly inflammatory and coming from a place of personal hurt. If the info is true that's v bad moderation, and that's not a good thing, but considering the huge influx of people i can get how it turned out the way it did

@mehluv yes, I think it does, but also I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to actually have to deal with all that and actually keep hitting a stone wall (especially when you've built this space over the past 5 years).

Btw noob question, what does a fediblock do and what does getting delisted mean? Because it seems like I can still interact with people outside my instance? Also, what happens when a server gets defederated?

@NehaKhazanchi so delisting means if you go to the joinmastodon website and see the recommended list of instances, you won't see qoto.org. Fediblock, I'm not sure. Defederation means you won't be able to interact with an instance that has cut qoto.org off
