Man the last half hour really lifts up #Kantara. The build up till there felt slack and uneven and I was starting to lose interest but then it finally starts to get interesting and the last 15 mins are truly spectacular. Still wish the first 3/4ths was tighter though.

@vinayaravind Saw it last night. Some portions of the movie felt like they were written to justify songs that would otherwise have no place in it.

Singara Siriye, I am looking at you... 🤨

@shrikant @vinayaravind I watched this movie on the big screen, and didn't think it was meant for an OTT experience. There were parts where I genuinely got spooked in the theater, don't think I'd have been half as shocked on a smaller screen. Also the original Varaha Roopam has been removed from OTT, that changes the experience.

@NehaKhazanchi @shrikant i have a fairly large TV and 5.1 sound, so in terms of sensory impact, it wouldn't be too far removed from the theatre. In fact the spooky/spectacular bits come off really well, but it's the rest of the film that really flags.

@NehaKhazanchi @vinayaravind Interesting, didn't know there was an original Varaha Roopam - it was there in the edition I watched last night. I do know there was a controversy around the Thaikkudam Bridge version not being credited, is that the original you are referring to?

The jumpscares were spooky at 1 AM even on OTT, can only imagine what it must have felt like in the theatre... :D

@shrikant @vinayaravind oh it's back? I thought the case was still ongoing. Didn't know it was resolved.

I guess when I say theater experience, I also mean the audience. Being surrounded by people who genuinely believe in and buy into that world. I think as a sceptic I may not have bought into it as much if I had watched it at home. But sitting among people gasping and crying, I was a lot more invested. People in the theatre were definitely into it. I hear one theater in Mangalore had to stop screening midway because a woman started screaming while watching the movie (don't ask me why, I have no idea). Actually there was more than one such incident.

@shrikant @vinayaravind btw, I read this alternate interpretation/fan theory clearly written by someone who understands Bhoota Kola and the different Daivas better than me; and this makes more sense in tying up some lose ends. I honestly didn't come out of the theater thinking of it this deeply, but it somehow makes sense.

Spioler alert: if you haven't watched the movie yet but intend to, don't read this.

@NehaKhazanchi @vinayaravind Now that is a description that makes me want to sneak into a single-screen theater and record all kinds of reactions of people invested in the experience!!

@NehaKhazanchi @vinayaravind Not sure, haven't checked. What I mentioned in my previous reply was just a quirky little experiment I'd love to do...
