Why would anyone give any #Google domain location access in the first place?

Rare case where the app is safer. Much easier to control the permissions. Give Maps location access, only Maps gets access, and it can only have access when the app is open if you set the permissions right.

Slightly iffy on stock #Android since Play Services are system level. But works on #iOS.

Android: either use #OpenStreetMaps or #Graphene (a secure fork of Android that sandboxes Google apps/services).
