@frankie
Technically you can use it from your browser by long-pressing the link and choosing "open in external app" (which is annoying and LibRedirect solves this), but where it really shines is for links in other apps.
@frankie The F-Droid app UntrackMe does something similar.
Linux distro recommendations
@urusan The problem with Manjaro is that they hold back packages, which get out of sync with the AUR, leading to the dreaded "partial upgrades". I suspect this is what happened to you.
Distros like Garuda Linux and EndeavourOS avoid this problem by using up-to-date Arch packages. Garuda is more opinionated, including things like having Timeshift configured out-of-the-box to do a system snapshot whenever you update.
If you don't mind older packages, Linux Mint (my daily driver for the past several years) is a reliable choice. You get the practical benefits of an Ubuntu LTS system without the B.S. from Canonical. If you want a non-LTS release cadence, maybe try Pop!_OS.
I've also heard good things about Fedora and openSUSE, but missing packages have kept me away for now.
Finally, there are two Debian derivatives I'll suggest looking at: Parrot (Home Edition) and MX Linux. Both of them are based on Debian Stable but with additional backports.
One of my work mates has been implementing support for extensions to #GNOME Web (a.k.a. Epiphany): https://blog.tingping.se/2022/06/29/WebExtensions-Epiphany.html
This has been made possible because at #Igalia we want more of us to dogfood a WebKit-based browser, and the number one complaint was “but, I miss extension $XYZ”. Luckily, being an owner-based coop we can *choose* ourselves to invest time in things like these ![]()
ad blocking
@vriska I block any ads that would track me, i.e. most of them. If a content creator chooses to rely solely on unethical means of income, expecting people to allow their privacy to be violated, that's on the creator, not the user.
BTW, don't use AdBlock or AdBlock Plus. Instead, I recommend uBlock Origin (the "Origin" part is important).
@evelyn Minetest is the stone soup of video games.
@robby @GeoffWozniak Even if the training set was 100% 0BSD licensed, you'd still have the chain-of-custody problem.
@evelyn I answered a security question honestly once. The site had the option, "What's your favorite security answer?" Whatever I generated, I can say with confidence that it is in fact my favorite security answer.

USPOL, supreme court
@urusan To me, the underlying issue is that justices will decide what their ruling will be first, then figure out how to support it after the fact in an opinion, using ideas like originalism, pragmatism, and even minimalism as rhetorical weapons instead of as tools to guide their decisions. It's intellectually dishonest.
re: "Go google it"
@LunaDragofelis
If I think someone should look something up, I may send them a DuckDuckGo* search results page.
By doing this, I:
- Have a chance to spot problematic search results ahead of time
- Nudge them away from the personalized results of Google/Bing/Yandex/etc.
- Show them what query I would use

The types of Plugins I support in my browser engines:
1. Regexp-based autoredirection & blocking extensions
* I'll preinstall a Farside.Link extension for damage-control.
2. Alternate/additional CSS stylesheets
3. Lua sandboxed CGI-like locally-dynamic pages.
* How I'd implement Rhapsode's auditory chrome.
The 3rd is useful mostly only in Rhapsode, where they'd be triggered via voice commands.
I wonder if others are interested in writing such addons? Or building a discovery site?

subtraction by radix complement
@derwinmcgeary@octodon.social @fabriek@octodon.social That's because this is the decimal version of how subtraction is commonly done in hardware. For binary, replace 9 with 1 and 10 with 2 (two's complement). More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Method_of_complements
