Having been here since 2016, I can tell you there is definitely no such thing as a consensus on usage of content warnings on the fediverse. It's a decentralized network that doesn't belong to any one party, so by definition there is no single culture on it. Different corners have different expectations and customs.
Why are my feeds improving so quickly? I'm seeing #exponentialGrowth in the value of #Mastodon that is following Reed's Law as #twittermigration arrivals self-organize.
In 2001 David Reed said a network's value is driven by groups. The number of potential groups grows exponentially (2^N) as the network population increases. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed%27s_law
Look for this network effect to overcome the friction of moving from the birdsite to the #Fediverse as community formation accelerates.
Another quick PSA for the newcomers:
There is no Mastodon.
As in, there is no entity out there called Mastodon that needs to "get it together" or "make things easier."
Every server is a unique collection of hardware and software operated by a unique team of (usually) volunteer humans funded by (usually) donations.
Some days will be smoother than others. We new folks have flooded the network. Cut the volunteers some slack. Better yet, offer support.
These are some of the people I've found on Mastodon and recommend following:
@Dr_D_Robertson
@ariskatzourakis
@nisreen
@aliceroberts
@jujuliagrace
@mikegalsworthy
@doctoroxford
The last two are on @mas.to
@SusanMichie
@Fascinatorfun
@chrischirp
All well worth a follow.
Let's build our network together.
UK home insulation rates have collapsed after 2012 and never recovered.
@theCCCuk@twitter.com just published a letter calling on the UK government to drive energy savings in homes to help households in times of high energy prices.

Oh dear, Rish!
Amazing how Ukraine manages to plant perfectly aged corpses for the crime scene, en masse, without anyone ever discovering their creation, storage, transportation and delivery.
All my trolls are morons
Just an FYI..
I've disabled the twitter cross poster because... well it just didn't seem very fediverse friendly.
So, increasingly, there will be divergence between what I post on Twitter and what I post here.
Partly cos what I write is often influenced by what I come across on each site & partly cos double posting is boring & time consuming.
I don't yet know how the balance of posts across the two will evolve - but I've definitely reoriented myself assuming fediverse is like twitterverse
hey guys from Twitter.
we are glad to see you here but please understand that the fact that fediverse is anti-viral, anti-hierarchy and anti-capitalist is the point of it
please also understand that CWs, alt text and other stuff here is not there to "silence you" — it is to allow users greater agency over their feeds for their mental benefit, and to support disabled people.
this network was built by marginalized people. who disliked Twitter for the same reasons you do.
don't bring it back.
Because I'm on a German server my trending topics are #keinVergessen and #niemalsVergessen. This is because 9 November is the anniversary of Kristallnacht.
These brass plates in the pavements memorialise Jewish people at what were their addresses. I saw this one in Berlin in the spring. #NeverForget
