The Government’s plan to implement mandatory voter ID will significantly push back efforts to increase turnout amongst young people.

This is also not to mention the real danger that trans people could be turned away if their photo ID does not match their current appearance.

When it comes to democratic participation, the generational disparities are clear to see.

In the 2019 general election, turnout for 18-34 year olds was 54%, whereas turnout for those aged 65 and over was 77%.

Previous elections followed a similar trend.

But we're most concerned about how the voter ID rules in the Act could specifically disenfranchise young people.

@rbreich worse is that now that Trump is in charge, they’re suspending accounts that criticize him. I hear Musk is on the warpath for @stephenking who openly criticizes Trump, so he’s targeting King’s fan base. Look what just happened to me for suggesting King write a horror novel about Trump:

I have mixed feelings about all the publicity raising the injustices in #Qatar because of course it’s great to care about #HumanRights but it really does make me wonder why aren’t people bothered by such injustices outside the context of a #WorldCup. Because they’re not unique to that country or to this specific time. I grew up in the #MiddleEast & hardly anyone in the #West cared about such injustices or asked their government why they facilitate them by working with those who instigate them.

It’s good to see engagement and use growing here. It would be healthy to have a social platform free of the billionaire oligopoly and the corporate ad folks, don’t you think?
