Every day I log into Mastodon, see new people, see some epic photography, read some wild stories, and in every way I feel more comfortable and at home than I ever did on the (soon to be dead as a 🦤) bird site.

So to all involved in mastodon, from conception, to you the community of users and contributors I thank you all for having me as part of this epic community 💜

After 10 years on the bird site I'm happy to be here in the Fediverse. Most of my interactions there were about #UKPolitics, but here I hope to spend more time talking about my other interests too.

8 years ago I started a daily #PhotoBlog, published on Blipfoto and my own web site. I mainly photograph things with wings - #insects in spring and summer and #birds in winter - but I'm now also getting into autumn #fungi.

My view: The climate loss&damage fund should also be filled by those companies who knowingly sell a dangerous product and actively mislead the public about the risks and lobby against climate policy. Precedent is the tobacco companies’ case.

I blocked this guy the first time (first image). Yesterday he followed me again from another instance & I blocked that. Today he tried AGAIN. Just trying to get the word out but I was having trouble getting images to load

For those still on the bird site, OH noted that since my departure (and I have deleted the app, if not my account) a number of people have misunderstood my decision as being about Trump. It isn’t (he was always blocked). It is about a social network that has become the personal fiefdom of a man so utterly without morals or conscience that he reactivated the account of someone who attempted to seize power by force. I wont contribute to that world. Besides, I like Mastodon better. It is a nicer place. I would encourage people to do the only thing that can hurt Musk. Leave Twitter and move on.

Think the main difference between the two platforms is on Twitter when you make a joke you get one haha and two death threats, whereas on here you get one haha and someone earnestly explaining the 6th century origins of the specific road that particular chicken crossed. Yet to decide which is more distressing.
