How to follow #Mastodon Hashtags

1. Login on your Mastodon account from your PC (unlike #Twitter, Mastodon is not well optimized as an app yet)

2. Search for your desired hashtag. Example: #mastodonon

3. Click on your desired hashtag.

4. You will get the below picture at the top of your screen.

5. Click on the (person+) button - I put it in a red circle below for clarification.

❤️Giving a favourite is only a personal appreciation but it is not as strong as the reblog.

💡This is a fix and major improvement to #Twitter, which uses likes as measurement to push the posts in people’s feeds.

Friendly #Mastodon tip of the Day 2

Filters are your best friend. If you don’t want content about Elon Musk , go to Preference > Filters and make one for "Musk".

Or #Twitter. Or anything you don't want to see.

Those posts will be hidden, and filters can be time-limited. So if you just want to filter out football chat during the world cup, you can do that.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

Things I've learned about Mastodon this week:

1. Photo captions are read by screenreaders for people who have impaired vision. The more descriptive you make them, the more people can appreciate your post.

2. Hashtags should be "camel style" which means you capitalize each word in the tag - this enables screen readers to identify different words in the tag,

3. Reblogging boosts posts and favourites do not.

4. Hashtags are way more important here than on the birdsite.

Another #MastodonTip I've learned is that if you're posting a long thread then make the first one public (with the 🌍Public: Post to public timelines) but make the rest of them unlisted (with the 🔓Unlisted: Do not show in public timelines) which means the replies don't appear on people's timelines but the first post does! ☺️

The best way to increase everyone's feed diversity is to go follow interesting accounts on other instances :)

Little Mastodon tip if like me you find the content warning culture here overly annoying, you can just go into your settings and tell it to auto-show all posts and/or all sensitive posts. So you can effectively get rid of the content warnings for yourself but let everyone else still have them, which is cool.

I don’t know about you, but the pushback on extremism makes me feel a bit calmer, more optimistic, even if House Republicans take power and overreach by launching a sour flood of show trials.

Did you know that if you capitalize each word in a multi-word hashtag, #ScreenReaders can read them as words, but if you leave them lowercase, they can't? Well, now you know! So, for #accessibility, please capitalize words when there's more than one in a hashtag.

Looks like a lot of our fellow Americans do still care about democracy.
