I have always felt that anyone in a position of power and authority, like Police officers, MPs, local councillors, judges, magistrates, high ranking civil servants and so on should be given the absolute maximum sentence available to the judge should they be found guilty of committing any crime!
@Paulos_the_fog let's start with full background checks and sign off by their seniors before they are actually hired. If that happens already, it isn't working.
Let's stop the people we know are arseholes from taking positions of power, and punish those that take power we didn't know about that abuse it.
Better punishment is not a deterrent, sadly.
