I was watching a video made by an American woman married to German who was astonished to find that life in Germany is far better than in the USA.

She was frightened that the healthcare wouldn't be up to US standards - she found it was better in Germany! She was entitled to 20 days of fully paid vacation along with all public holidays (as are all employees in the EU), sick pay and loads of other advantages that most Americans never see in their entire career!

The average US citizen is completely ignorant of the way of life in any other country and therefore sucks in all the bullshit about how the USA is the greatest country on earth. The USA is a great country if you are rich and prepared to exploit the poor but for everyone else, is a fuckin hell-hole!

@Paul Brownjohn Lee and his wife Betty live alternately in the USA and Germany. Lee makes very interesting comparisons between life in the USA and Germany. I think they are very honest, sometimes critical comparisons.

SHOCKING HEALTHCARE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN GERMAN UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE vs American Private Healthcare

@Paulos_the_fog I think of this whenever I watch ‘Dr Pimple Popper’—that her patients, with giant, life-altering, disfiguring lumps and bumps, could only exist in America. Citizens of countries with public health care would have those cysts and lipomas removed before they’d reach even half the size of those show-stoppers, but poor Americans just suffer with them for years, until a TV programme comes along to make them better.

@Paulos_the_fog
We Americans get told so many lies, and too many of us believe the lies.

@Paulos_the_fog

I spent much of my career working for a European company.

But the US subsidiary managers immediately dumped all those benefits, froze the pension, and so on in the name of "competitiveness".

Even so, other companies would mock us for our "socialist" benefits.

It was really disturbing how much people toady up to American management without even looking at alternatives.

@Paulos_the_fog Vacation time and sick leave depends on who you work for. Easily 30 days off but you need to be educated and/or have a good job.

The below average US citizen (not educated) is ignorant about life in other countries. But this also true of many countries.

I can absolutely say it's not a hell hole, and I am pretty average. This statement shows how little you know what you are talking about.

@Paulos_the_fog

Life in the EU also appears to be much better than in Russia.

But right-wingers here (US) seem to be under the impression that life is somehow better in Russia. It's baffling.

@Paulos_the_fog I am always surprised when I come across those. I can understand how a "common man" type person might not be aware of the differences between countries, but if you have the means to move to the other side of the planet AND you've put in enough thought/consideration to actually undertake such a move, how oblivious are you that you didn't research basic info like that before you decided to uproot your entire life?

@Paulos_the_fog what's pissing me off the most as a European is other Europeans going on all the time about how 'we need to be more like the US'. No we fucking don't. And exactly for the reasons you mentioned.

I might use this post next time it comes up again ;)

Until I moved to Thailand, I had had relatively little contact with Americans. I did work for a couple of American companies and there I met one US guy who impressed me as being a top guy but all the other Americans made me throw up!

I discovered in Thailand that the average American, particularly the males, only seems to know how to interact with people by bouncing their ego off everyone they meet. They are massively aggressive, obnoxious, overbearing, bombastic and very obviously fantastically insecure!

@Paulos_the_fog American immigrants in Europe fall into two groups. The overwhelming majority is happy and realising that " the greatest country in the world" was indeed propaganda. The small minority is whining about cereals, lack of cars the size of a tank, people speaking their native languages and having to walk 200m.
