He has incentive to concentrate on the harsher cases because they induce emotional turmoil in the audience and make the job of convincing us of nonsense easier. Even a completely unproved threat is magnified by severity in what's risked. See E. Teller's,paraphrased: 'If we ban nuclear tests the Soviets will test on the other side of the sun and learn how best to nuke us out of existence.'.

Nuclear weapons and their delivery systems required quite a lot of maintenance if they are to hit their assigned targets and detonate as designed.

Given the parlous state of much of Russia's weaponry and the lack of maintenance that has been evidenced by the war in Ukraine, If the war in Europe went nuclear, I wonder what chance there is of Russia's nuclear arsenal actually working if deployed?
