@j_bertolotti great gif! is your animation taking into account that the human eye does not detect the whole visible range with equal sensitivity? I thought greatest sensitivity is around 550nm (greenish) and significantly lower around 450nm.
Meta-don, culture clash
@davehb @Amandatron89 @jby putting a CW is not a huge effort many instances enforce it strongly. I don't think it would be unreasonable to put them up on most photos and off-topic (politics) just to be safe. Cynics can go back to the bridsite or an instance that doesn't care. Same with alt text.
Part of the draw of the fediverse is the focus on accessibility. We shouldn't sacrifice that for the sake of convenience or cynics who'll complain no matter what.
Did you know that if you capitalize each word in a multi-word hashtag, #ScreenReaders can read them as words, but if you leave them lowercase, they can't? Well, now you know! So, for #accessibility, please capitalize words when there's more than one in a hashtag.

Hello #TwitterMigration people. If you encounter a racist/discriminatory/hate toot, tag it with #fediblock. That makes it easier for administrators to find troublesome identities and/or undesirable servers and block them. #Twitter #Mastodon #TwitterTakeover #racism #hate #bigotry
@rafael_rdguez @realtimechem “my countries” are accidents of circumstance. They occasionally do something worthy of praise. They also do (have done) some terrible things. looking at historical events I see nationalism as a net negative.
(From a 2018 tweet of mine):
November 7th is the birthday of both Lise Meitner and Marie Curie. Of the 14 chemical elements named after real people (not mythological figures), only 2 are named after women: meitnerium and curium (the latter of which is in honour of both Marie & her husband).

My new article in Slate: https://slate.com/business/2022/11/suv-size-truck-bloat-pedestrian-deaths.html
More and more Americans assume “safe car” means “bigger SUV than the other guy.”
That trend is a big reason US streets have grown more deadly. And road safety groups are enabling it.
@gcluley perhaps his firing workers (paying severance) and the rehiring (paying signing bonus) is his way of pushing up worker pay?
@realtimechem do we need such nationalism to support inclusiveness in chemistry science? Do these “benign” gestures of nationalism make it easier for those using nationalism for less benign reasons?
