@johnrossmd Before I began working on my masters in public mgt at CMU in the late 80s, I assumed I would be one of many environmental scientists there trying to manage away from certain disaster. Instead, I was surrounded by hospital professionals but no physical scientists. And I thought to myself, "Boy, medical costs are going to skyrocket". And they did. And on the global warming thing, sorry, but no one cared when something meaningful could still be done. But at least I tried.

Women in positions as full professors in the Netherlands still dismally low at 26,7%, and the shift is slowing down- this year just 1% more than last year.

At this rate it will take until 2041 until an equal gender distribution is reached. The yearly monitor by the Dutch Network of Women Professors (LNVH) is a discouraging read this year.

Seriously, NL academia. Do better.

I never thought, when I trained or worked as a GP, that Diphtheria and Polio or, to a large extent, measles, would again be things that I might have to recognise. Nor would I have believed that malnutrition on a scale currently seen would be tolerated by society. I was wrong - how quickly are the hard-fought gains lost.

I envy the people who can watch tv shows & movies and NOT think about the unrealistic depictions of the kinds of apartments or detached homes that people would really be able to afford in the cities they’re in, based on the jobs and likely salaries they have. #cities #AffordabilityCrisis #MoreHomesNeeded
