Why don’t year-end summaries about the economy mention this year’s record high corporate profits, unprecedented levels of corporate concentration, highest-ever CEO pay, or record levels of corporate political contributions in a midterm election?
I DON'T WANT SELF DRIVING CARS!!!!
✔️ I want boring things like public transit that comes so regularly I don't need to check a schedule.
✔️ I want fast passenger rail so accessible and easy it's preferable to suffering airports.
✔️ I want cities that aren't built around cars-as-default
✔️ I want the country to own it.

“There’s been this decades-long process of hollowing out cities essentially to favor the rich and those in the suburbs who drive everywhere,” said Wagner."
“Why should people pay high prices for housing but cars pay nothing for some of the most valuable land on Earth?"

Alan Turing was a mathematician & cryptographer who was a leading code-breaker in the team that decrypted Nazi Germany’s Enigma machine during WWII. He inspired modern computing & what became artificial intelligence.
Instead of being hailed as a genius & hero, Turing was convicted as a homosexual & forced to endure chemical castration. He died by suicide at 41 in 1954.
The British government didn’t apologize until 2009 & Queen Elizabeth II finally pardoned him in 2013. #history #science
In 2024, Paris will ban non-essential vehicle thru-traffic from its city center. The plan is expected to cut around half of daily car journeys thru the core. Residents, public transit, emergency vehicles, & people with disabilities will find it EASIER to move. Via @citylab

As a human rights lawyer who has done extensive immigration work, let me make something absolutely clear.
Asylum is legal immigration.
There's no "port of entry" requirement.
There's no "visa" requirement.
There's no "first country" requirement.
You enter the United States, and you apply for asylum.
Because asylum is legal immigration. Period.
Period.
@BrentToderian @lloydalter @conradhackett As with all figures concerning averages, we should not forget that this doesn’t reflect whether the distribution of all this newly acquired “space” is even across demographics. Those who have the resources will always be able to get more space to keep more things. Sadly, those who do not aren’t as fortunate.
The average INDIVIDUAL U.S. resident now has as much living space in their home as entire families shared in the 1950s. That’s 3X as much space per person. We’ve convinced ourselves we NEED all that extra space, and the excessive stuff we fill it with that we likely wouldn’t buy if we didn’t have the space we thought we needed to fill. We really don’t.
