Why are Dutch-speakers better at poetry than German-speakers, and why is this lost on everybody?

@azforeman That's a... Special take. In The Netherlands, poetry has not much of an appeal, even in literary circles. It might have something to do with the fact that Dutch is less conservative than German, which could make Dutch poetry from, say, Middle 19th Century up to well into the 1930s feel far more dated to Dutch native speakers than German poetry from the same age to German speakers.
